Häcker Price Groups, Explained Properly

Ask the price of a Häcker kitchen and you’ll hear a phrase that deserves a proper explanation: it depends on the price group. Far from being evasive, the price-group system is the most honest pricing mechanism in the kitchen industry — once you know how to read it.

The ladder

Every front in Häcker’s Systemat programme belongs to a numbered group, PG 1 through PG 10; concept130 runs its own parallel ladder. The rule is simple and absolute: every front within a group prices identically. A cabinet in one PG 5 decor costs exactly what it costs in any other PG 5 decor. There is no premium for the colour that photographs well, no negotiation theatre — the ladder is the ladder.

What changes as you climb

The groups track the real cost of making, not fashion:

• The early groups carry excellent melamine-resin and structured decors — the workhorses of the programme, with the same carcass, hinges and drawer engineering as everything above them.
• The middle of the ladder brings deeper finishes: lacquered surfaces, matt anti-fingerprint faces, more complex edge profiles.
• The upper groups are where making gets genuinely expensive — multi-coat true lacquers, glass fronts, real wood veneers, and the labour-heavy processes behind them.

Read that list again and notice what doesn’t change: the engineering. The factory in Rödinghausen builds a PG 1 kitchen and a PG 10 kitchen on the same lines, to the same rigidity, with the same fittings programme available. The ladder prices the face, never the bones — which is the whole point of a German kitchen.

Using the ladder like a planner does

The system rewards a specific tactic: spend where your hands and eyes actually live. A kitchen mixes groups freely — many of the best ones put the upper-ladder finish on the island everyone sees and touches, and run the honest middle of the ladder inside the utility run. Same maker, same engineering, meaningfully different total.

The ladder also makes “stepping down” a design decision rather than a defeat. Every group has fronts chosen by the same German programme planners; two groups down is not a lesser kitchen, it’s a different face on the same machine.
