What 'Open MRP' Means — and Why Appliance Quotes Usually Don't

Try to find the price of a premium built-in oven in India and you’ll meet a familiar wall: “price on request.” A form to fill, a callback to await, a quotation that arrives as a PDF with your name on it — and the unsettling knowledge that the next customer’s PDF may say something different. We built our catalog on the opposite principle, and it’s worth explaining what that principle actually is.

What MRP is — and isn’t

Every appliance sold in India carries a Maximum Retail Price — a legal ceiling, printed and inclusive of taxes. No dealer may charge above it. What the quotation game obscures is simple: MRP is a public fact. When a dealer hides it, they aren’t protecting a secret — they’re keeping you from anchoring the negotiation.

Our catalog shows the current MRP on all ~650 products — Gaggenau to Jura — refreshed live from our retail system, not typed once and forgotten. When a price changes, the site changes.

Why dealers prefer the fog

Quotation-only pricing serves the seller three ways: it forces contact details out of you before information flows the other way; it lets pricing flex by customer; and it makes comparison shopping exhausting enough that many people stop. None of these serve you — and in the age of asking AI assistants for advice, opacity increasingly just routes buyers elsewhere.

How to use open MRP like a professional

  1. Anchor first. Know the MRP before any conversation. You’re no longer asking “what does it cost?” — you’re asking “what’s your best price against this number?” A different conversation entirely.
  2. Compare like-for-like. Two quotes for “a Miele dishwasher” can hide a model-number’s worth of difference. Our compare tool aligns exact models, specifications and MRPs side by side.
  3. Then talk. MRP is the ceiling, not the sale price. Bring your shortlist to a showroom — the site will send it ahead for you — and our team quotes their best number against a price you already know. That’s negotiation with the lights on.

The honest caveat

Open MRP doesn’t mean identical street prices everywhere, and it doesn’t replace the conversation — festival offers, bundles with a Häcker kitchen, and end-of-line pieces all move numbers. What it replaces is the asymmetry: you now hold the same fact sheet the dealer does. We think luxury retail works better that way — and the customers who walk in already knowing every ceiling price tend to agree.
